Vijaya College has been encouraging extracurricular activities as much as academic ones. The college supports sports, cultural, literary, dance, and theatre activities, striving for the overall development of its students. In this context, Rangasaurabha, a theatre team, was formed in 1999. The team staged several new plays, earning a reputation in the Kannada theatre world.

However, over time, theatre activities lost momentum and eventually came to a standstill. Now, after a decade-long hiatus, theatre activities have resumed at Vijaya College with renewed enthusiasm and vigor. The Vijayaranga Kala Tanda has been re-formed, and its first production, Sevanti Prasanga, directed by Vijay Kashyap, was staged at Ravindra Kalakshetra on February 9, 2023. 

The play received appreciation from the audience, and student Jyothi won the Best Actress award. Story is a journey of emotions. It has the power to make us laugh, cry, hope, and feel deeply. A story is not just told; it is felt—in every word, every moment. Every story creates its own world, pulling the audience into its heart. It connects the past, present, and future, sharing experiences that never fade. Through storytelling, feelings are expressed, and imagination takes flight.

The team staged the play "Kathakhanda" under the direction of P.D. Sathish Chandra. Vijaya College holds this artistic tradition close to its heart, nurturing it with passion and dedication. Through Vijayaranga Kala Tanda, the institution continues to celebrate the transformative power of theatre, ensuring that the stage remains a space for expression, exploration, and excellence.

With this spirit in mind, Vijaya College proudly presents stories through Kathakandha, celebrating the beauty of theatre, bringing emotions to life, giving voice to creativity, and providing a stage for artists to shine. Each performance brings stories to life, keeping the magic of storytelling Kathakandha presents a bouquet of six stories, chosen from six different continents and presented in Kannada.

Director's Note:

During my college days, I plunged into theater, and working with college students has been a delightful experience. Their enthusiasm and eagerness provide positive vibes that can't be found elsewhere. It's also a matter of pride to introduce them to the world of international literature through the play "Kathakhanda." I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved and the college administration.

ವಿಜಯಾ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಾಟಕ ಕಥಾಖಂಡ, ಹೆಸರೇ ಸೂಚಿಸುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಆರು ಖಂಡಗಳಿಂದ ಆಯ್ದ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಸರಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ. ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಈ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಬರೆದದ್ದು. ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೂ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೂ ಇರುವ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ನಮಗೂ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಪ್ರಯೋಗದ ಸಹಭಾಗಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ  ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ತಂದಿದ್ದು ನಿಜ. ವಸುದೈವ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ನಿಜ ಪರಿಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಸುವ ಈ ಆರು ಕಥೆಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವೇ, ಕಥಾಖಂಡ ನಾಟಕ.

ಕಾಲೇಜು ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಧುಮುಕಿದ ನನಗೆ, ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಜೊತೆ ಕೆಲಸಮಾಡುವುದು ಆಪ್ಯಾಯಮಾನವಾದ ಅನುಭವ. ಅವರ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ, ಉಮೇದಿನಿಂದ ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ positive vibes ಬೇರೆಲ್ಲೂ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೂ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡಲು, ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮುದ್ದೆಯಿಂದ ಮಡಿಕೆ ಬಳಸುವುದಕ್ಕೂ, ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ತಂದ ಮಡಿಕೆಯ ಬಳಸುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿದೆ. ಮುಗ್ಧ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ, ಕೊಂಚ ಶಿಸ್ತು ಸಂಯಮದ ದಾರಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವರು  ನಮ್ಮನ್ನೂ ಮೀರಿಸುವ ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿಗಳಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಬಹಳ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ವಾದ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಈ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ, ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಪರಿಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಸುವ ಕಥಾಖಂಡ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಅತೀವ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ವಿಷಯ. ಈ ಅನುಭವಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷೀಭೂತರಾದ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನವರಿಗೂ ಅನಂತಾನಂತ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು.

ಕಾಲೇಜು ತಂಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ: ವಿಜಯರಂಗ ಕಲಾ ತಂಡ,  ವಿಜಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಜಯನಗರ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು:

ವಿಜಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಜಯನಗರ ಪಠ್ಯ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆಯೋ ಪಠ್ಯೇತರ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ.  ಕ್ರೀಡೆ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ನೃತ್ಯ ಹಾಗೇ ರಂಗ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳಿಗೂ ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ವತೋಮುಖ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಶ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1999 ರಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಸೌರಭ ಎಂಬ ತಂಡ ಹುಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿತು. ಆ ತಂಡದಿಂದ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸ ರಂಗಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳು ನಡೆದವು. ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಹೆಗ್ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಿತು. ರಂಗ ಸೌರಭ ದ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಚ್ಛ್ರಾಯ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ರಂಗ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು, ಬರಬರುತ್ತಾ ಮೊನಚು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಮಂಕಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ ಸ್ತಬ್ಧವಾಯಿತು. 

ಇದೀಗ ದಶಕಗಳ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಮೌನದ ನಂತರ, ವಿಜಯ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಅಂಗಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ರಂಗಕಲರವ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮತ್ತದೇ ಹುರುಪಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಹುಮ್ಮಸ್ಸಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ರಂಗ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಪುಟಿದೆದ್ದಿದೆ. ವಿಜಯರಂಗ ಕಲಾ ತಂಡ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ರಂಗಪ್ರಯೋಗದ ಕಡೆ ಮುಖಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಅದರ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲವೇ 2023 ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 9 ರಂದು ರವೀಂದ್ರ ಕಲಾಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜಯ್ ಕಶ್ಯಪ್ ಅವರ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ತಯಾರಾಗಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗೊಂಡ ಸೇವಂತಿ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ. ಈ ನಾಟಕ ನೋಡುಗರ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ಪಡೆದದಲ್ಲದೆ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ನಟಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು, ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪಿ.ಡಿ. ಸತೀಶ್ ಚಂದ್ರ ಅವರ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಥಾಖಂಡ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ.

1. AFRICA – ‘The Sacrificial Egg’ by Chinua Achebe: A Western-educated Igbo man, Julius, unwittingly breaks a sacrificial egg at a crossroads and becomes infected with a deadly epidemic that ravages his town and his fiancée.

2. ASIA – ‘Ivan the Fool’ by Leo Tolstoy: A generous and simple-minded peasant, Ivan, outwits the Old Devil and his three brothers, who seek wealth and power, by using his magical gifts to help others and live happily.

3. AUSTRALIA – 'A Gentleman's Agreement' by Elizabeth Jolley: A cunning and impoverished single mother tricks a wealthy and naive doctor into signing a contract that allows her and her children to live on his land for free, turning his peaceful property into a chaotic mess.

4. EUROPE - ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ by Roald Dahl: A selfish and greedy gambler learns to see without his eyes from a secret yoga manuscript and uses his newfound power to win money, until he decides to change his ways and help the poor.

5. SOUTH AMERICA – ‘The Jaguar and the Little Skunk’ a Mayan Folktale: A cunning and brave little skunk goes hunting with his godfather, the jaguar, and learns how to outsmart the bigger and stronger animals. 

6. NORTH AMERICA – ‘Tom Sawyer, Whitewashing the Fence’ by Mark Twain: A clever and mischievous boy, Tom, turns his punishment of painting a fence into a profitable and fun game, by tricking his friends into doing the work for him and paying him with their treasures.
