Pradarshana Kala Samsthe presents “Rangaayaama–2014 A celebration of arts”

Prakasam (Pradarshana Kala Samsthe) celebrates its 5th anniversary of Kengal Hanumanthaih Kala
Soudha, between 14th to 16th February, 2014 at Kala Soudha.

RangaAayama is the brainchild of Prakasam and intends to showcase the 4 types of performing arts over
three days. World renowned artistes are performing to celebrate the success that all of you have brought in to Kala Soudha. We plan to make this year’s performances as interesting and unique as it has been all along. We welcome one and all to join us and enjoy the celebration called RangaAayaama.

The itinerary:
14 Feb @ 7.30 PM Katha Sangama (Tickets @ 50 Rs), A play based on 6 famous Kannada Short Stories
by Prakasam.
15 Feb @ 6.30 PM Chayageet (Tickets @ 200 Rs), BR Chaya's musical evening presented by Sarvasva
16 Feb @ 4 PM Edegarike (ENTRY FREE), movie screening & chat with D Suman Kittur
16 Feb @ 7 PM Bhava Navanaveena (ENTRY FREE) song and dance tribute to late Rasthrakavi Dr. G S
Shivarudrappa by Prakasam.

Katha Sangama features six short play’s based on six short stories written by Kannada literature world
legends. The stories are interwoven with love and Sihi Kahi Geeta is our narrator for the show.The stories are

  1. Anjappana Koli Kathe – Maasthi Venkatesha Iyengar
  2. Shukrachaarya – Bagalodi Devaraaya
  3. Kammaara Veerabhadrachari Joyisanaagiddu – Goruru Ramaswamy Iyengar
  4. Vaniya Samasye – Kodagina Gowramma
  5. Dhanvantari Chikitse – Kuvempu
  6. Innondu Mukha - Tha Ra Su.

Chayageet is the brain child of Sunil Rao of Sarwaswa and Expressions, who have gladly joined us in the festival to showcase the evergreen voice of BR Chaya, the nightingale of Kannada Music World. The program will feature a pure blend of Chaya with hit songs of Lata Mangeshakar, Asha Bhonsle and Geeta Dutt and their celebrated numbers. What more this is BR Chaya’s 10000th show!!

D Suman Kittur is the star attraction of this year’s RangaAayama and we are screening her award winning movie “Edegarike”. Post the screening she would share her views on future of Kannada Cinema, the untold stories of Edegarike, modern movie making tools and techniques and other interesting aspects of her learning in Kannada Film Industry.

Bhava Navanaveena is the final presentation of the festival where we would pay our tributes to Rashtrakavi
Dr. G S Shivarudrappa by composing few of his poems and staging a dance ballad around the same. We plan to feature poems which have attained fame and also hidden gems which we cherish in fathoms of our heart. Team Prakasam’s in-house composers, dancers and choreographers would create this 100% original
production.

Arts related Workshop - Like all years we would have workshop’s this year too. We plan to have workshops related to performing arts like lighting, writing etc. We will shortly provide all the details.

Kengal Hanumanthaih Kalasoudha was leased from BBMP by Prakasam (Pradarshana Kalaa Samsthe)
five years ago to promote nurture and encourage perfoming arts. We have had more than 1000 art
related performances in the past five years with the stage being utilized by leading performers and
connoisseurs of art. KH Kalasoudha as it is popularly known has moved up in the popularity charts and
made its mark in the map of Bengaluru in these five years. The exciting fact is that Prakasam has been
able to provide a performing stage for more than 100 new performing teams/individuals and more than
900 performance since its inception.

The Production Intern Program offers you the opportunity to work alongside professional artists and managers at the forefront of an award-winning regional not-for-profit theatre group.  Please note that during the production internship two days absence is accepted, a third day if the reason is genuine.  If you can not attend more than three day's then it would be difficult for us to spend time with you and also on our production.  Kindly stick to the day's and times mentioned for the production.  This is what would define your interest and commitment the two basic characters we look at as a team and which is primary to any theatre production. Katha Sangama "Bouquet of Stories"

Katha Sangama "Bouquet of Stories"  There has been a trend of short plays in the modern time of timelessness. We are so used to instant food, job, friendship, money we are also bombarded with requests for short plays. We now have successfully prepared the “Bouquet of Stories” exclusively for you. Marking the 100th birth anniversary of Kodagina Gowramma , the gallant feminist writer at her times (1912-1939) we are staging her short story too as part of this festival.  The play is in Kannada and the exquisite selection of the stories will make you want more. With eight Jnanapeth Awards and stalwarts to choose from we had to read more than 120 short stories written between early 1930’s to 2011 to arrive at this unique bouquet.
