Prakasam staging its 13th production – “Sairandhri – A MythoModern play”

Sairandhri is an unique attempt from team Prakasam and has three actors portraying 6 different characters. The play was a challenge ever since it was conceptualized and it was only after a great deal of brainstorming and hair loss that a final design was arrived at. Both the writer and director have had sleepless nights and countless fights to give the best opportunity to the actors. The Actors have a bigger challenge as they have to switch between mythological and modern characters in this no break, no blackout play. 

We have three main characters Bheema, Keechaka & Sairandhri who portray their characters in seven scenes. In Ajnyatavasa episode of Mahabharata Bheema is also known as Vallabha the cook and is referred to as Jayantha and Draupadi is the palace maid Sarandhri referred to as Malini amidst pandavas. There is already character confusion in the mythological escapade. The play will look at these three characters in contemporary scenario where Keechaka is the boss, Bheema the HR and Draupadi the software engineer in a huge MNC.  The characters speak in a relatable way keeping the objective and message of the play hidden but hard hitting through smartly crafted dialogues. The last scene is thought provoking through intriguing questions related to lifestyle, work culture, extra marital affairs, secret affairs, work life balance, relationships, money matters, ethics, loyalties, self control etc

Director’s Note, P D Satish Chandra:  Sairandhri is the common woman whom we take for granted in our everyday life.  She is our mother, teacher, college girl, daughter or the representation of girl power.  The true gamut of female power is unleashed in our play.  All my plays without our knowledge talk about women empowerment, Hosabelaku, Bogie, 13 Margosa Mahal, Katha Sangama, Ammora Ganda have taken a look at this subject in different perspectives.  But this production is the toughest in terms of handling and presentation.  This during our rehearsals changed our perspective of how we look at women and their perspective of our world.  We are sure that this would change the perspective of some audiences in our shows.

ಸೈರಂಧ್ರಿ - ಅನೇಕ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಹಾಗು ಪ್ರಚಲಿತ ವಿದ್ಯಮಾನಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ನಾಟಕ. ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪನೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದು ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿಯೂ ಸ್ವಾರಸ್ಯಕರವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ನಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗು ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸವಾಲಾಗಿ ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ಹಾಗು ಆಧುನಿಕ ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಗಹನವಾದ ಕಥಾವಸ್ತುವಿನೊಡನೆ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಕಾಮ, ಅನುರಾಗ, ರಾಜಕಾರಣ, ನಂಬಿಕೆಗಳ ಒಡನಾಟ ತೊಳಲಾಟಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಡುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಗ್ನಾತವಾಸದ ಪ್ರಸಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಂಡವರು ಅಗ್ನಾತನಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಜೀವನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಭೀಮನು ವಲ್ಲಭನಾಗಿ ಅಡುಗೆಯವನಾದರೇ ದ್ರೌಪದಿಯು ಸೈರಂಧ್ರಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಸಖಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬದುಕು ಸಾಗಿಸಿದಳು ಎಂಬ ಕಥೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ. ಸೈರಂಧ್ರಿಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸೋತ ಕೀಚಕನು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಬೇಕಂದು ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತರವಾಗಿ ಭೀಮನು ಕೀಚಕವಧೆಯನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದ ಕಥೆಯು ಜಗತ್ಜಾಹಿರ. ಹಾಗಾದರೇ ಈ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿಷೇಶತೆ ಎನು?

ನಾಟಕದ ಪರಿಚಯ: ಆಧುನಿಕತೆಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿಷೇಶತೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ಭೀಮ, ದ್ರೌಪದಿ, ಕೀಚಕ, ಇಂದಿನ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಾನಿಸಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು, ನಿರ್ಧಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ ವಾದ ಪ್ರತಿವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕ ಕೀಚಕ ಅಲಿಯಾಸ್ ಕೆ.ಸಿ.ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಕಂಪನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಹುದ್ದೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಯುವಕ, ಆಧುನಿಕ ಭೀಮ ಅಲಿಯಾಸ್ ವಲ್ಲಭ, ಮತ್ತು ಆಧುನಿಕ ದ್ರೌಪದಿ ಅಲಿಯಾಸ್ ಮಾಲಿನಿ ಅದೇ ಕಂಪನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆ.ಸಿ.ಕೆ ಯ ಕೈಕೆಳಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಾಲಿನಿ ಇಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ, ಮಡಿವಂತಿಕೆಯ ಬದಲಾದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಯುವತಿ, ತನ್ನ ಖರ್ಚು ಕಮ್ಮಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ, ತನ್ನ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸಲು ವಲ್ಲಭನ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಲಿವಿನ್ ರಿಲಾಷನ್ಶಿಪ್ ನಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ವಲ್ಲಭನಿಗೆ ಮಾಲಿನಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಪಾರವಾದ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಬೇಕಂಬ ಬಯಕೆ, ಆದರೇ ಮಾಲಿನಿಗೆ ವಲ್ಲಭನಿಗಿಂತ ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಕೆ.ಸಿ.ಕೆ ಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಒಲವು. ಅವನ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮನಸೋತ ಮಾಲಿನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಗಿಂತ ಜೀವನ ದೊಡ್ಡದು ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ.

ಪಿ.ಡಿ.ಸತೀಶ್ ಚಂದ್ರ, ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ನುಡಿ: ಸೈರಂಧ್ರಿ ನಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ನಡುವೆ ಇರುವ ಒಂದು ಹೆಂಗಸು, ಹುಡುಗಿ, ಮಹಿಳೆ, ಅಮ್ಮ, ಮಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಹೆಣ್ಣಾಗಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೈರಂಧ್ರಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರತೀಕ, ಹೆಣ್ಣಿನ ಶೋಷಣೆ ಅಥವ ಹೆಣ್ಣಿನಿಂದ ಆಗುವ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯ ನಿಮಗಾಗುವುದು. ನನ್ನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಅದು ಹೇಗೋ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು, ಬೋಗಿ, ೧೩ ಮಾರ್ಗೋಸಾ ಮಹಲ್, ಕಥಾಸಂಗಮ, ಅಮ್ಮೋರ ಗಂಡ ಇವೆಲ್ಲಾ ನನ್ನ ಅರಿವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಈ ವಿಷಯದಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿವಿಧ ರೀತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಾವನೆಗಳು ನಡೆದಿವೆ.  ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಮಾಡಿರೋ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಾಟಕಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಈ ನಾಟಕ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬರಲಿದೆ.  ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಹಾಗು ಅವಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ನೋಡುವ, ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ರೀತಿಯ ಪರಾಮರ್ಶೆ ನೋಡುಗರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂದೇಹವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನಾಟಕದ ರಿಹರ್ಸಲ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯ ನಮ್ಮ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನೇ ಪರಾಮರ್ಶಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಹಾಕಿರುವುದೇ ನನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲ.

ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಕಲಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ: ಪ್ರಕಸಂ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಕಲೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಚಾರ, ಪಾಲನೆ, ಪೋಷಣೆ, ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಹಾಗು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲು ಪಣ ತೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ.  ಕಲಾಸೇವೆಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಕಸಂ ಕೆಂಗಲ್ ಹನುಮಂತಯ್ಯ ಕಲಾಸೌಧದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಬೃಹತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಂದ ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಕಲೆಗಳಾದ ನಾಟಕ, ನೃತ್ಯ, ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಆಯಾಮಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯವನ್ನು ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಯ ಹಾಗು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಹೃದು ನಾಗರೀಕರರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪಡಿಸಿದೆ. ಯುವಜನರನ್ನು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಸ್ಟೃಸಲು ಅನುಪಮ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಕಲಾ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುತ್ತ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ರಂಗಮಂಚದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾಗಗಳಿಂದ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಬಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಅನನ್ಯ ಕಲಾಜ್ಯೋತಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜನವರಿ ೨೦೧೦ರಿಂದ ಜನವರಿ ೨೦೧೪ರವರಗೆ ೧೨೦೦ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಲಾ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳಾಗಿವೆ.
