ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು 60ರ ದಶಕದ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಮಹಿಳಾ ಲೇಖಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾದ ವಾಣಿಅವರ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಚಿತ್ರ. ಇದನ್ನು ಯಾರು ತಾನೆ ಮರೆಯಲು ಆಗುತ್ತೆ? ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರತಿ 1969ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಅಪಾರ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಕಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಇದನ್ನ ಆಗಿನ ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ದೊರೈ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಜೋಡಿ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿತೆರೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದರು. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಕಣ್ಮಣಿ ಡಾ. ರಾಜ್ಕುಮಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸರಿತ ಜೋಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದ ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುದೊಡ್ಡ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಕಂಡ ಚಿತ್ರ.
ಕೋಟ್ಯಾಂತರ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ನೋಡಿ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿದ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು, ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಪ್ರಕಸಂತಂಡದವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕೂಡ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಚರ್ಚಿಸಿ, ಮೆಚ್ಚಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮನೆಯವರನ್ನೂ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿದ ಈ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು, ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಇಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದವರಿಗೆಂದು ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ. ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗೆ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರದ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲದೆ, ವಾಣಿಯವರ ಮೂಲಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ, ಹೊಚ್ಚಹೊಸ ರಂಗ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆ ತರುವ ತಯಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಲೀಮು ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ನಾಟಕ, ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರದ ಹದವಾದ ಈ ವಿಷೇಷ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಕಸಂ (ಮೊದಲು ಫೋರ್ಥ್ ಕಾರ್ನರ್) ತಂಡದ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ.
ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು 1982ರಲ್ಲಿ ತೆರೆ ಕಂಡಿತ್ತಾದರೂ, ಈ ಕಥೆ ನಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ನಡುವೆ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಥೆಯೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆ ತರಲು ಇದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಆಗಬಲ್ಲ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೂ ಜನರು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ನಡುವೆ ಎಲೆ ಮರೆ ಕಾಯಿಯಂತೆ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಟಕ ಈ ತರಹದ ಜನರ ಮಾದರಿ ಜೀವನದ ಪರಿಚಯವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅದೇ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನ ಆಧುನಿಕ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದೆ ತರುತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯತ್ತ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಕರೆತರುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ನಮ್ಮದಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾವು ರಂಗದಮೇಲೆ ಕರೆತರುವ ಕಥೆ, ಪಾತ್ರ, ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ನೃತ್ಯ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಆಪ್ಯಾಯಮಾನವಾದರೆ ಅವರುಗಳೂ ಖಾಯಂ ರಂಗಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಅಚಲ ನಂಬಿದೆ. ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ರಂಜಿಸಲು ಮನೋರಂಜನೆಯ ಜೊತೆ ವಿನೂತನ ಕಥೆಯಿದ್ದು, ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿನ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ವಿಷೇಷ ಅನುಮತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಾಗು ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ತುದಿಗಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ರಂಜಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕಿದೆ.
ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ನುಡಿ - ಪಿ.ಡಿ. ಸತೀಶ್ ಚಂದ್ರ
ನಾನು ಕಳೆದ 5 ವರ್ಷದಿಂದ ಕಂಡಿರುವ ಕಹಿ ಸತ್ಯವೇನೆಂದರೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಶ್ ಅಥವಾ ಕನ್ನದ ರಂಗ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರ ಆಗಮನ ಆಗದಿರುವುದು. ಅದೇ 300 ಜನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಡೆ ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದದೇ ಮಾತುಕಥೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ನವೀನ ಸಂಚಲನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸದೇ ಇದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನಲ್ಲದೆ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಬೇಕಿದೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕು ನಾಟಕಕಾರರ ಎಂಟುನಾಟಕವವನ್ನೇ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮುಂದೆ ತಿರುಗಿಸಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಆ 300 ಜನರಲ್ಲಿನ 70% ಜನರ ಅಂಬೋಣ. ಹಾಗೆ ನೋಡಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಲ್ಕತ್ತ, ದೆಹಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂಬೈನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸತನವೇ ತುಂಬಿತುಳುಕಿತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಾವು ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಅನ್ನುವಕಡೆ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ಅನ್ನೋ ಪರಿಭಾಷೆ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊಸತನ ಮರೀಚೀಕೆಯಾಗಬಾರದಷ್ಟೆ. ನಾನೂ ಸುಮಾರು ರಂಗಹಿರಿಯರೊಡನೆ ಸಂವಾದ ಮಾಡಿದನಂತರ ನಮ್ಮ ದಾರಿ ನಾವೇ ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಉತ್ತಮ ಅನ್ನಿಸತೊಡಗಿತು. ನನ್ನ ತಂಡ ಕಲಾಸೌಧವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದೇ ಈ ಹೊಸತನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕಿನ ತಯಾರಿಗೆ ತೊಡಗಿದೆವು. ತಂಡದೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾರಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಸಂವಾದ ನಡೆಸಿ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನಾಧರಿಸಿ ಹೊಚ್ಚ ಹೊಸ ರಂಗರೂಪಕ ತಯಾರಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಕರೆತರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಮಗೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸ್ವಾಗತ. ನಮ್ಮ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸಬೆಳಕು, ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ (ನಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ) ಹಿಂದೆಂದೂ ನಡೆಯದ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿ ಬನ್ನಿ.

‘Hosabelaku’ a play based on a legendary Dr. Raj moive & a famous novel by Ms. Vani

‘Hosabelaku’ the name literally means ‘New Light’ or the mild but melting dawn light of the sun. This Kannada movie was based on the novel written by the most acclaimed feminist writers of her time, Vani. Hosabelaku was first printed in 1969 and was converted into the huge silver screen hit in 1982. The name still rings a bell in many hearts with the screen adaptation of the same name starring the icon of Kannada movies, Dr. Rajkumar & Saritha.
Like the millions of Kannadigas, we, Prakasam (Formerly Fourth Corner Productions) are influenced by this cult classic movie and have rolled up our sleeves to create a stage adaptation/version by combining both the scripts - used for the movie, as well as the novel. The final product will be an in-house production for Kala Soudha.
With a contemporary adaptation, our endeavor is to present the lives of many unsung real life heroes who lead such exemplary lives that they are worthy of being role models. From 1982 till now, Hosabelaku has truly been the story of many households and needs to be told again and again. Hence, this is our effort to present this story in modern times, where seems to have changed in the Indian society. The idea of the play is to cultivate new audiences for theatre. Theatre is another medium of entertainment and Hosabelaku aims to do just that.
Director, P D Satish Chandra’s note:
What I have observed largely in the past five years is that there is a fixed set of audiences for both Kannada & English theatre productions. Wherever there is a production we have the same set of audiences watching the play at different venues and more than 70% of the audience is repeated. This is not an encouraging development for healthy theatre, as we are not adding new audiences. This also stands out as the main difference between theatre in Bangalore and in other theatre-rich cities. As an old school theatre enthusiast, just mentioning or discussing this point was not enough for me. I felt a need and desire to do something about bringing back the masses into theatre. Other large theatre groups are staging the same old Shakespeare, Karnad, Karanth and the likes. My discussions with various theatre groups and eminent personalities led me to figure out a way for myself. My friends and volunteers got together to bring out the initial draft of the story. This was followed by lengthy discussions to come out with a storyline, which would not compromise what was shown in the movie or what was written in the book. I am sure that the final product is going to concentrate on entertainment and on creating new audiences for Kannada theatre.
