Katha Sangama Eng Press Preview

Pradarshana Kala Samsthe presents Katha Sangama, a bouquet of 6 short plays woven around Love, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day

Pra.Ka.Sam (Pradarshana Kala Samsthe) is known to bring forth productions with a difference.  Katha Sangama is no different; it encompasses six different dimensions of love and is presented in evergreen theatre styles to enthrall the audiences.

The six stories are carefully chosen and are woven together in perfect harmony & with eight Jnanapeth Awards and stalwarts to choose from we had to read more than 120 short stories written between early 1930’s to 2011 to arrive at this unique bouquet. We are also proud of the fact that we are staging Vaniya Samasye by Kodagina Gowramma & marking her 100th birth anniversary, she was the gallant feminist writer at her times (1912-1939).  The play is in Kannada and the exquisite selection of the stories will make you want more.

In the unique trend set by Pra.Ka.Sam we are launching four young directors with this play.  Chandan Shankar, Monish Nagaraj, Santosh BS & Krithi Bettadh, has all been associated with Pra.Ka.Sam at different levels and now are promoted to being directors.  We leave it to the audience to critique and encourage them.

The six short plays were conceptualized and has the chief direction of P D Sathish Chandra and play adaptations are by Chandan Shankar.   The stories are
1. Anjappana Koli Kathe (Story of Anjappa’s chicken) by Maasthi Venkatesha Iyengar.  Love to Perform, Story Director: Chandan Shankar
2. Shukrachaarya by Bagalodi Devaraaya.  Power of love, story director: Monish Nagaraj
3. Kammaara Veerabhadrachari Joyisanaagiddu (Veerabadrachari the Blacksmith as a Priest?) by Goruru Ramaswamy Iyengar.  Love for Work is Love for Life, story director: Santosh BS
4. Vaniya Samasye (Vani’s Question) by Kodagina Gowramma. Confusions of Love, story director: Krithi Bettadh
5. Dhanvantari Chikitse (Dhanvantari’s Cure) by KuVemPu.  Country’s True Love, story director: P D Sathish Chandra

“Our work at Pra.Ka.Sam has been predominantly entertainment oriented and often we had feedback from audiences to do works of art based on strong Kannada literature.  This is our honest effort in bringing to light some extraordinary writers like Kodagina Gowramma and Bagalodi Devaraya, who are well forgotten by our Kannada masses over the years.  We also are balancing these two with classics of Masti, Goruru, Kuvempu and TaRaSu.  Hope this bouquet of stories will live up to critics expectations”.
