About the play: The play Hosabelaku is a balanced mixture of the stories picked from the movie and the novel.  The stage adaptation’s main objective is “women empowerment” & suggests that a smart and sensible woman can make her life better with amendments to her live and people whom she loves.

The story has reached the audiences first as the novel in the 60’s & the movie in the 80’s. Prakasam had the responsibility of creating the stage version keeping in mind the message and the success of its previous two versions. We in our previous shows have succeeded in entertaining and enthusing audiences.  The play is very finely scripted by Chandan Shankar and P. D. Sathish Chandra has directed it keeping in mind both the old and the contemporary scenarios in our social setup. Some of the characters have been transformed to be a lot more soft and subtle and yet cunning and meticulous as in the current scenario. Very few loud scenes and no over the top dialogues makes the play contemporary and was appreciated by people from both Dr. Rajkumar’ s era and the current era.

Highlights
~ First time a popular mainstream cinema and the original novel were referred to create the script and the drama
~ The script and style of drama is progressive and shows freshness in every scene and actor
~ Actors effortlessly reach the audiences without much theatrics since the script is contemporary
~ Seven scenes are placed in together like a symphony, a song between every scene adds to the play’s specialty
~ Original music has been retained and all songs are professionally choreographed and performed on stage

Directors Note: When we took this production the basic objective was to create audiences for the newly opened place Kala Soudha.  Creating new audiences for theatre has been the primary goal of Prakasam too. We wanted an entertainment package to induce theatre for the local crowd and enthuse them to visit Kala Soudha and all performances which get staged there.  That’s when we thought of a set formula & Hosabelaku movie came to our mind.  We did the mixture of the movie and novel to come out with the “women empowerment” theme, and it did win hearts when ever we have staged it.  I thank Mr. Raghavendra Rajkumar and Mr. Bhagwan who let us use the music of the movie in our play.

About P D Sathish Chandra: Sathish of Prakasam Trust has been working with different theatre groups from India at different times. He currently runs Kengal Hanumanthaiah Kala Soudha as its Director and aims to run the place to encourage new talent and to bring out performances that are fresh and unique. Katha Sangama "Bouquet of Stories"

Katha Sangama "Bouquet of Stories"  There has been a trend of short plays in the modern time of timelessness. We are so used to instant food, job, friendship, money we are also bombarded with requests for short plays. We now have successfully prepared the “Bouquet of Stories” exclusively for you. Marking the 100th birth anniversary of Kodagina Gowramma , the gallant feminist writer at her times (1912-1939) we are staging her short story too as part of this festival.  The play is in Kannada and the exquisite selection of the stories will make you want more. With eight Jnanapeth Awards and stalwarts to choose from we had to read more than 120 short stories written between early 1930’s to 2011 to arrive at this unique bouquet. We sincerely hope that you will have a blast watching this as we have creating this performance piece for you. We enclose a small brief below of the stories to give you a better idea of the performances. We have interwoven six stories, running around the ...
